Curiosidades sobre la cultura y el idioma.

No es solamente necesario conocer sobre las reglas gramaticales y el vocabulario de un idioma, sino que resulta imprescindible conocer la cultura, costumbres e historia del país del idioma que estamos aprendido.

Es por ello por lo que tras leer ciertas curiosidades, algunas de ellas en esta página (click aquí), he decidido hacer una pequeña selección de las que más interesantes me han parecido:




10. Curiosities about English culture and language:

  • The official language of England for about 300 years was French (from 1066 till 1362).
  • The English class system is not determined by money, but by one's background (family, education, manners, way of speaking...).
  • Oxford University once had rules that specifically forbade students from bringing bows and arrows to class.
  • Fish 'n chips is not much traditional an English dish than Chicken Tikka Massala. The first fish & chips restaurant was only opened in 1860 by a Jewish immigrant.
  • British people love drinking tea.
  • British people’s favourite food is sausages and baked beans.
  • It is very common to find carpet in the houses and flats of England (sometimes even in the bathroom).
  • If a British person turns into 100 years, the queen writes him/her a letter personally and brings it to him/her.
  • They are very punctual, so they are never late for a meeting.
  • When British people meet they do not kiss, they greet with their hands.
